Today marks the release of ICS Calendar Pro version 3.7.0.
This version includes functional enhancements that were added to ICS Calendar in versions 8.7.0 and 8.8.0 over the past month, along with a few targeted bug fixes in the Month with Sidebar view, and some general CSS tweaks.
The calendar builder now includes the updated Details Toggle setting, which allows you to choose either of the previous options (event details appear on hover, or toggle inline on click), as well as a new “lightbox” option, which is especially useful for calendars that tend to have very long event descriptions. With this option, you can have event descriptions open in a popup lightbox when users click the event title. This feature was introduced in the free version of ICS Calendar 8.8.0, but with this update, it is now available in all free and pro views.
The calendar builder also includes a couple of new “experimental” features introduced in ICS Calendar 8.7.0. These are considered “experimental” in that they are not yet functionally complete, and their functionality may change somewhat over time. These are both located under the Advanced tab of the calendar builder. Compact reduces text sizes and margins on the calendar, improving its usability in small spaces. It is particularly focused on the list view at this time. And No Month Headers does just what it says: it removes the large month headers in month, list, week and month-with-sidebar views. It has no effect in views that need the month headers for context and usability.
In addition to these new features, we’ve fixed a couple of bugs in the month-with-sidebar view:
1. Earlier versions were not correctly handling the Table Cell Contents option, displaying both the event names and the “dot” when set to “Events.”
2. A recent template change broke existing functionality that would display “No events found” in the sidebar when the user clicked into a date that had no events. As a result, the sidebar would continue to display the list of events from the previously selected date, even though the date header itself would update, potentially creating confusion for users. Now the proper “No events found” functionality has been restored.
These updates introduced in ICS Calendar Pro version 3.7.0 coincide with some minor CSS adjustments also introduced today in ICS Calendar 8.8.1. I recommend updating both plugins to their latest available versions, although strictly speaking, ICS Calendar Pro 3.7.0 only requires ICS Calendar 8.8.0.
