Today marks the release of ICS Calendar 11.5.12 and ICS Calendar Pro 5.10.3.
The big new feature in both versions is the introduction of automatic color palette matching and dark mode options.
Both of these options are configured under the Appearance heading in the Settings tab of the ICS Calendar admin page.
Match calendar color palette to current Block Theme colors: This option only applies for themes that support new Block Editor features: either a theme.json
file in the theme that defines a color palette, or the color palette options in the Styles section of the Site Editor.
If your site uses these features, then turning on this option will automatically replace ICS Calendar’s default neutral gray color palette with the closest matches (by comparing luminosity) from your defined color palette.
Dark mode: This mode inverts ICS Calendar’s default color palette or your theme’s color palette, if the above option is also turned on. This is great if your site primarily displays with a dark background color and light text color.
Both of these features are currently labeled BETA and are subject to change. Since the color replacements are selected algorithmically from a limited set of available options, we can’t guarantee that the resulting combinations will pass color contrast accessibility tests. Some sites may require additional adjustments to the calendar shortcode settings or a bit of custom CSS for optimal appearance. Your feedback on these new features is welcomed!
